Terms of service
These are the terms for using Thing4That. By creating an account or paying, you agree to them.

What you’re buying
For $12.99, Thing4That gives you access to a step-by-step guide that helps you prepare a provisional patent application: a written description, a set of drawings, and a link to the USPTO’s own cover sheet form. Up to 6 drawings are included. Extra drawings are $2 each.
You file the application yourself with the USPTO. We don’t file anything for you, and we don’t review your documents.
Who can use it
The service is for people who live in the United States or its territories and who file as individuals. You don’t need to be a U.S. citizen. If you live elsewhere, or you’re filing for a company, the USPTO requires a registered patent practitioner, so this service isn’t the right tool.
You must be at least 18 years old.
This is not legal advice
Thing4That is self-help software. We are not a law firm or a patent attorney or patent agent service, and using the service doesn’t create an attorney-client relationship. If you need advice about your own situation, please speak with a registered patent attorney or patent agent.
Your responsibilities
You’re responsible for the information you enter, for checking your documents before you file them, and for what you file with the USPTO, including the fee level you claim and any statements you make to the USPTO.
The USPTO’s filing fee is separate from our price. You pay it directly to the USPTO.
Please keep your password private. You’re responsible for activity under your account.
Please don’t use the service to break the law, to upload content you don’t have the right to use, or to try to interfere with the site or other customers’ accounts.
No guarantees
We can’t promise that your invention can be patented, that any application will be granted, or what your idea is worth. We also can’t promise that a particular filing will meet every USPTO requirement. The USPTO’s rules can change.
Your content
Your invention details, drawings, and documents belong to you. You give us permission to store and process them only to run the service for you, such as saving your answers and building your files.
The Thing4That website, software, and wording belong to us. Your purchase gives you the right to use the service for your own invention, and to use the documents it produces for you.
Your files
You can download your files from your dashboard whenever you’re signed in. Please download and keep your own copies. We may change or stop offering the service, and we’ll try to give notice if we do.
Limits on our responsibility
The service is provided “as is.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we’re not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, including lost profits or lost rights, and our total responsibility for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Refunds
Our refund policy is on the Refund policy page and is part of these terms.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms. If we make a significant change, we’ll let account holders know. Using the service after a change means you accept it.
